As a horse loving (Social worker) with an additional
training as a hippotherapist a dream came true: I was able
to combine my work and my hobby.
Since 1991 I have led a succesful full time hippotherapy
practice in Remscheid (Germany). Through my work with
handicapped children I also learned about the needs and worries
of their parents. Many complain about there holiday experiences
that are rarely relaxing. The reasons seem obvious: the continous
charge of their child, a lack of places equipped for the handicapped
and the negative attitude of other vacationers.
That's how the idea came about to develop an integrated holiday
project that is handicapped-friendly and thereby permits parents
to fully enjoy a relaxing holiday. With the Herdade do
Castanheiro I found the ideal object to realise my plans.
Here, in this beautiful Portuguese landscape, there is room
for people and for animals.
